Syntax [ಪ್ರಯೋಗ prayōga] of Passive Verbs [ಕರ್ಮಣಿ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಪದ karmaṇi kriyāpada]

268. Passive verbs are rarely used in Canarese. They are not formed as in English by addition of the auxiliary verb ಇರು iru, Be, to the principal verb, but by adding the word ಪಡು paḍu, To experience, to the infinitive; as,

• ದೇವರಿಂದ ಸಕಲವು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು dēvariṃda sakalavu sṛṣṭisalpaṭṭitu, Every thing was created by God.
• ನಿನ್ನೆ ಹಿಡಿಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟರು ninne hiḍiyalpaṭṭaru, They were seized yesterday.
